J2M3 Raiden {Jack} Empty
PostSubject: J2M3 Raiden {Jack}   J2M3 Raiden {Jack} EmptyFri Jan 23 2015, 15:57

Progress on this Hasegawa 48 scale {Limited Edition} IJN J2M3 Raiden [Thunderbolt], but given the code name of Jack to the Allies {originally flown by the 381st Naval Flying Group in Malaya} this aircraft was captured in the Philippines and handed over to the TAIU -SWPA of the USAAC and test flown from June 1945, it was then handed over to the ATAIU of the RAF and test flown in Malaya until 1946.
To make such a weather beaten relic, I highlighted the panel lines in Gloss Black, then applied a fine thin coat of Silver overall, when dry it was then painted in the IJN Grey on the lower surfaces, allowed to dry over night and masked off ready, tor the IJN Green upper surfaces. The top forward section of the fuselage will be masked off ready for the application of the Blue/Black anti glare panel. I also have to add the Orange/Yellow theatre ID band to the leading edge of the main wing.

All paints used on this build are from the Gunze Acrylic Range.

This is an OOB build and the only addition is a harness decal for the pilot.
This kit has 2 decal options:

A: The ATAIU SEA of the RAF, which is the box art for this kit.
B: The TAIU of the USAAC, in a Bare Metal overall finish.

NOTE:- ATAIU - SEA stands for Allied Technical Aircraft Intelligence Unit - South East Asia.
TAIU - SWPA stands for Technical Aircraft Intelligence Unit of the South West Pacific Area.
