P 39 Airacobra Empty
PostSubject: P 39 Airacobra   P 39 Airacobra EmptyThu Jun 06 2013, 00:40

This 48 scale Eduard Airacobra is from a Dual Combo MTO Multi Media kit, two kits and a 6 option decal sheet, photo etched frets, nose weights and canopy masks, were in the box and the main kit was built as a USAAC North Africa subject, this being the second kit was built as a Pacific Theatre subject, using a mix of decals from other kits, I based my subject as a CACTUS AIR FORCE unit based on Henderson Field Guadal Cannal, the factory applied camouflage is an interpretation of the Bell Factory replication of the British camouflage, using the Dupont manufactured paints, not to close to the British colours, the Green is US Green 42, US Sand, applied free hand to the upper surfaces and Blue Grey applied to the lower, I used the Star and Bar decals, from a Warhawk kit, as they matched the faded centres with a darker outline, the white outer wing tips are Pacific Theatre unit ID markings, the cockpit detail is a mix of plastic and colour photo etch.
Accurate Miniatures and Hasegawa also manufacture the P 39 Airacobra, the Accurate Miniatures kits have long gone, but often turn up at Swap Meets, Hasegawa's kit is of a Royal Air Force Squadron.

NOTE:- The main undercarriage doors have been removed on this subject, as the unit my subject is based open, removed the doors of the main wheels on all aircraft, due to the mud.
