| This 48 Bristol Beaufighter TF X is the 3rd production of the Beaufighter series of kits released by Tamiya, this time it is built as the T.F Mk X, this version DOES NOT have the thimble nose or the additional dorsal fin, the decals in the kit are for 236 Sqn RAF {QM-F in red} and 272 Sqn RAF {MB-T in yellow}, but my subject flown by 455 Sqn RAAF, {UB - E} has After Market decals from the Part II sheet of Beaufighter subjects produced by Cutting Edge, the Aussie flag was carried on all Beufighter aircraft flown by this Squadron, but the pilots rank pennant, mission and 'kill' markings are fictional. The housing behind the cockpit roof is the gun camera housing and cover, the forward antena is made from brass wire, the rear antenia is made from fine music wire, the flat inlet forward of the windscreen is the cool air inlet for the ASR Radar system. The AEAF Bands on this subject are from the kit supplied decal sheet, the Torpedo hanger braces are fitted to the fuselage centre line, as each flight from this Squadron rotated their operation duties, depended on the offensive weapons carried, in this case just the 8 x 27lb rockets. The Sky under surface and the Ocean Grey upper surface are both from the Model Master enamels range of RAF paints. The 20mm cannon blast tube patches are made from Tamiya masking tape and painted in Humbrol Orange liner enamel paint, cordite and exhaust stains, panel line weathering is all pastels.
Note:- This model was sold to a collector some months after it was completed. | |
